Born in Geneva, from Spanish and French parents, the young Jaïlyna was substantially influenced in her childhood by soul music, her mother listening in loop, singers like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Prince. She discovered instruments by her father who had brought back from Spain small wooden guitars, that she soon played dreaming of becoming a great musician.
Ever since her teenage, music became an evidence and will be part of her life forever. Like many other artists who also inspired her, songwriters and singers, as Erykah Badu and Me'shell Ndegeocello, Jaïlyna has established her own style and will perform exclusively what she artistically appreciates.
Though, this feeling of artistic freedom, typical for a solo singer-songwriter, Jaïlyna will face the reality of self-learning. It was only after her twenties that she had taken music lessons and few of vocal technique. She hit the road for a few years, but with her own determination and against all, she manages to perform and write her own tunes.
Very quickly, she split with french lyrics, being a key finder for Jaïlyna, who then switched to a more natural tone of voice and resonance in English. Its only after attending assiduously to various jam and concerts that she was convinced to be attracted by the nu-soul movement.
It was only her own experience on stage, first with « reprise » songs, but then with her own compositions, who will help her to confront her timidity with a sense of humor. She found a great pleasure to share introspective and daily adventures to her public who give a great return.
It took Jaïlyna a few year's experience to craft her talent and establish herself. She then soon had the opportunity to produce her « debut album » with the support of the label "Yes I Am Records".
Later the encounter with Larry Gold, the legendary Sound of Philadelphia, who helped Jaïlyna to create her own compositions. During the summer 2010, the album was recorded in the famous « Studio » of Philadelphia, same studio where her idols, Erykah Badu or The Roots, have registered many of their albums. Supervised by Larry and accompanied by musicians used to playing with Jill Scott, the sound of "Philly" was in the box. It remains to sublimate the work with a ravaging mix.
Comes then a collaboration with Matt Knobel, a great sound magician, the chief engineer of Lenny Kravitz and studio director of « Setai Recording Studio » in Miami Beach, who is under the charm of Jaïlyna's sound. They will work together for several weeks to help mixing and guiding the implementation of the final tracks.
As a result, the album « Roughs » was released and named as a reminder of the premises of a « debut album », singular, introspective and experimental, full of vibrations and authenticity. The continuation of her story is to be discovered in her album, through the nine tracks that compose «Roughs».
